The Three Jars: A Superpower for Your Coins

The Three Jars: A Superpower for Your Coins

Have you ever got some money — maybe pocket money, maybe Eidi or a birthday gift — and a few days later it was just... gone? You are not alone. It happens to grown-ups too. But there is a simple trick that turns every coin into a little helper: the three jars.

Door one: the Save jar

The first jar is for future-you. Future-you might want a bicycle, a game, or a big art set. Those things cost more than one week's pocket money, so you need a place where coins can wait and gather.

Here is the magic part: saved money is patient. Ten coins this week plus ten next week is twenty. Keep going and one day you open the jar and the thing you wanted is actually possible. Saving is not "not spending". Saving is buying something bigger, later, on purpose.

Door two: the Spend jar

This jar is for now — the ice cream, the sticker pack, the small treats. You do not have to feel bad about this jar. Money is allowed to be fun! The trick is that the jar has a bottom. When it is empty, spending waits until next week. That is not punishment. That is the plan working.

Door three: the Share jar

The third jar is the secret one. It is for giving — a gift for your grandmother, a small donation, chocolates for a friend who had a hard week. This jar does something no shop can: it makes you feel rich while money leaves your hand. People who share a little regularly say they feel happier than people who only keep. Try it once and watch how it feels.

How to start tonight

  1. Find three boxes, jars, or envelopes. Label them Save, Spend, Share.
  2. Every time money reaches you, split it. A good beginner split: half to Save, most of the rest to Spend, a little to Share.
  3. Write the date and amount on a small paper. That is your first hisaab — your own money story, in your own handwriting.

Grown-ups use exactly the same idea; they just call the jars "savings", "budget", and "giving". You are learning it earlier than most adults ever did. That is a real superpower.

In the Hisaab kids zone, your three jars are already built in — ask your grown-up to show you.
